CHAPTER SIXTEEN

Payak gave me the exact location of where Jade and Teresa live, and even though I know it’s forward and she may not be ready to see me yet, I knock on her door anyways. I don’t even take the time to call or text her. That would give her the opportunity to say no and after rounding up the Wen-infected, I need to see her, touch her, and assure myself she’s fine.

The door cracks open slightly, and I watch Jade peer at me over the safety chain stretching in front of her nose. Her one eye widens before she slams the door shut on me. Great.

But no sooner does it close, it opens again wide enough for me to enter, and I realize she was just removing the safety chain. Before I can even step inside, she’s jumped at me in the doorway, throwing her arms around my neck and hugging me tight. The sense of relief I feel is enormous as I let out a deep breath of relief, snuggling into her neck and inhaling her scent.

Squeezing me, Jade’s breath flickers over my ear as she whispers, “Let’s phase to your dimension. Teresa’s in her room and I don’t want her—”

Stepping into her entryway, I kick the door shut behind me and immediately phase us into my dimension. Hovering briefly in the gateway for a moment, I ask, “Does this mean you missed me?”

Colors swirl, reflected in Jade’s deep blue eyes, making them appear green and then purple before changing back to her normal blue hue. She’s leaned back in my embrace, smiling as I drop my weight onto the bed behind me.

“Oh, yes. You’ve no idea.”

Lunging forward, Jade's lips slam into mine as she plunges her tongue deep into my mouth.
